Saturday

One day more!  By now the morning game of Toblerone trivia was a game among friends, and finality made the last milk chocolate prize seem bittersweet.  We then crowded into the hall for the Greek readers’ theater: Sophocles’ Antigone, with casting by Ashley Carr.  In a tale of triumph and sorrow, love and hate, the imperious Creon and passionate Antigone conjured an ancient war between gods and men.  As Creon’s last wrenching wail echoed across the hall, the audience erupted into applause.

After a lunch discussion on the topic of musical training for church members, some students found places to relax for a while.  Meanwhile, the cast of Metamorphoses prepared for a dress rehearsal, transforming the lawn into the mythical world of the Greeks with the aid of a wooden stage and pool.  A little later, everyone assembled in the hall for the annual Fling recital.  The ETS choir opened with a series of hymns and chorales as pans heaped with delicious aebleskiver treats were served to the audience.  Many gifted GBT students and siblings continued the program with music and drama, including piano, cello, recorder, fiddle, marimba, and vocal performances, as well as a poem, a dramatic recitation, and a duo interpretation.  An impromptu dual between David Voytek on the fiddle and Mr. Hinrichs on the banjo concluded the delightful variety show, and families departed for a dinner break.

Returning for the evening with lawn chairs and blankets, families set up to watch the Fling outdoor theater: Ovid’s Metamorphoses.  Directed by Gracemarie Lambert and Hannah Foster, the ETS cast presented this magical tale which included vignettes from the lives of King Midas, Phaeton, Vertumnus, Psyche, Baucus, Philemon, and other Greek characters.  In the midst of King Midas’ speech, an unexpected sprinkler shower surprised the audience, but the show went on.  Following final bows, we concluded the last night with singing.  Mr. Hinrichs prayed and wished us well, leaving us with the difficult task of saying goodbye.

Many thanks to all of the families who so graciously supported the Fling.  Thank you to the Wesolek family for capturing memorable moments with your pictures and videos.  Most of all, thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Hinrichs, for your vision, your leadership, and your ministry to each of us.  Eucaristw/!

If you would like to play a piece of music or recite poetry for the recital, please contact: Kylee Henson pianosister@gmail.com
Only live accompanists are allowed during the recital- no canned (recorded) music please.

Please take note of the following guidelines. Please let the coordinator know by the evening of Monday, June 15th. Also, please sign up to perform only if you are sure you can do so--if at all possible, we would rather not have to remove anyone from the program. Mr. Hinrichs also asked that the recital not be any longer than 2 hours, so we will need to know how long your performance will be. He also said that music of any style is welcome, so long as there is no need of electronic amplification. At present there is no time limit, but if the recital gets too long I may have to remove some numbers (i.e., ask some students to play only one piece instead of two or three. ;)) We will also need the name of the piece and the composer's name. Please do not sign up until you are sure of those details. Thank you all for your cooperation--we hope to make this recital as enjoyable as possible!

5:00-7:00 Dinner - If you would like to bring a sack dinner or pick up food from town (Felicita Town Center on the corner of Felicita and Centre City Parkway has a Trader Joe's, Major Market, Pick Up Sticks, Pacific Taco (great Mexican food), sushi restaurant, and a Starbucks.), you may eat on the Hinrichs grounds. Our barbeque will be available during this time, as well.
